tuk tuk

I forgot to mention the last mode of transportation in Chiang Mai.  Our last night in CM was on Sunday night, which is the night of the famous "walking market."  I was not prepared for this and we only decided we should go to this shopping event when we found out the resort didn't serve dinner on Sunday nights due to guests almost always choosing to go to the walking market and have dinner out. That kind of makes you think you should experience it.

The market was something to behold, not to mention this is where the boys bought and ate their fried grasshoppers and where Forrest and I paid $2 each for a 30 minute Thai foot message!  I digress.  Back to the transportation.

We walked for two or three hours in this swarm of people, bought loads of cool stuff for practically nothing, had a lovely Thai dinner, and then started making our way toward the end of the market where we planned on getting a truck - I mean taxi - home. But, when we arrived at the taxi stand, there was a line of these tuk tuks, which hold three people comfortably - one up front with the driver and two in the back.  We really want to get back, so we asked the driver if he would take all six of us in his tuk tuk.  He agreed and we started our 30 minute ride home.  Oh my word!  The six of us are not little anymore.

Forrest got to sit up front with the driver, but they were both out of this picture. The driver stopped to ask directions to our resort (the map we provided wasn't working for him and there was a significant language barrier), and Forrest got out to capture the moment.  I left the beady eyes so you could pick out the people in the back. Sort of like picking out critters in the woods.

This is a photo of a tuk tuk I found online. Note the small man driving and the small amount of space left for potential customers. Now imagine six, actually seven including the driver, driving along at 30 miles per hour for 30 minutes.
